New Delhi: In a bid to curb the makes an attempt of “anti-social components” attempting to intimidate voters, the Election Fee on Monday (March 22) positioned a ban on bike rallies forward of voting days.

The ban on bike rallies will come into impact 72 hours earlier than the voting begins within the respective constituencies.

“It has been dropped at the discover of the Fee that in some locations bikes are utilized by some delinquent components to intimidate the voters earlier than the ballot day and on ballot day,” the EC stated in an announcement.

“The Fee has thought of the above subject and has determined that Bike Rallies shall not be allowed at anywhere 72 hours earlier than date of ballot and on the Ballot day in all ballot going constituencies,” it added.

The Fee issued a directive to the chief electoral officers of poll-bound West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry on this regard.

The EC additionally requested the CEOs to tell all stakeholders involved, together with candidates, political events and the Fee’s observers, to make sure strict compliance of the instructions.

Elections to the 5 assemblies will start on March 27 and the counting of votes will happen on Might 2.
