New Delhi: In a significant setback to Arvind Kejriwal-led authorities in Delhi, the centre on Monday (March 22) handed the Authorities of Nationwide Capital Territory of Delhi (Modification) Invoice, 2021 within the Lok Sabha.

The NCT Invoice seeks to supply far-reaching powers to the Lieutenant Governor within the union territory.

The Invoice proposes that the ‘authorities’ referred to in any legislation handed by the legislative meeting would check with the Lieutenant Governor.

In response to the Invoice, the Delhi authorities should get hold of the opinion of the LG earlier than implementing any coverage resolution.

The Aam Aadmi Celebration has protested in opposition to the Invoice since its inception. The Congress social gathering has additionally opposed the proposed transfer.

Kejriwal accused the Centre of “curbing the powers” of the elected Delhi authorities by the Invoice. 

“The Centre has introduced in a legislation that claims ‘Delhi authorities means Lieutenant Governor’. If this occurs, the place will the CM go? Do elections, votes don’t imply something? It’s a fraud with the individuals,” Kejriwal mentioned final week.

Slamming the BJP-led central authorities, Kejriwal alleged that as they failed in “buying” AAP MLAs, they’ve amended a legislation to “lower the facility of the elected authorities in Delhi.”

A number of opposition leaders have expressed their reservations in opposition to the Invoice together with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, NC’s Omar Abdullah and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Banerjee had written a letter to Kejriwal extending assist over the Invoice. Terming the Bill a surgical strike on the federal construction of the Indian Republic, she mentioned she stands in full solidarity with Kejriwal within the matter.
